Freedom Park, located in Lagos Island, Nigeria, is a memorial and leisure park that was once Her Majesty’s Broad Street Prison. The park was designed by architect Theo Lawson and opened in 2010 to commemorate Nigeria’s 50th anniversary of independence.
The park serves as a reminder of Nigeria’s colonial past and the struggles for independence. It features monuments and exhibits that tell the story of the prison and the people who were incarcerated there. Some of the notable inmates include Herbert Macaulay, Anthony Enahoro, Obafemi Awolowo, and Michael Imoudu.
Today, Freedom Park is a popular destination for locals and tourists alike. It hosts a variety of events and activities, including concerts, art exhibitions, and cultural festivals. The park also has a museum, a food court, and several gardens.
