This is a solid attempt at a thriller. The plot isn’t exactly new, it’s one we’ve seen in too many films before, but this short film found It’s way around it. The story follows a couple struggling with money issues, and the wife has another life, a job and world she’s kept hidden from her husband, until it threatens the one thing she cherishes most. Basically, the classic “secret life, big consequences” scenario, but handled well enough to keep you watching.
The acting was good. Performances weren’t generic; there was a level of originality, and the child actor deserves a medal, seriously, that kid was genuinely great.
Cinematography, however, left something to be desired. At times, it looked like it was shot a decade ago. I checked my watch, and no, I wasn’t time traveling, that’s just how it felt. For a film shot in 2024, the camera department could have done so much better
Lighting also had its moments. The intense blue light in the couple’s apartment was so bright I half-expected NASA to call about a new satellite. If it was toned down a notch, we’d still get the “night vibe” without feeling like we’re trapped inside a glowing aquarium.
The art department tried, but the look and feel could have been stronger. The department in charge of sets and visuals didn’t fully support the tension the story wanted to build, and so some scenes didn’t hit.
On the positive side, the sound design was excellent. It wasn’t overbearing or distracting, it was just right, and it perfectly supported the mood of the film.
All in all, the team did their best, but there’s room to do a better work on the visuals and overall feel. Not perfect, but a commendable effort, and one that makes me want to see what this crew does next.
